Robot Mop vs Regular Mop_ Which One’s The Best for House Cleaning_ - Article Cover - Oakville Maids

Hello and welcome back to Oakville Maids! Today we’ll discuss the difference between a robot mop and a regular mop: which one’s the best?

This is an interesting debate in the house cleaning world! We all know robot mops are more and more frequent in every household. The question is: are they better or worse than traditional mops?

Technology has moved forward so fast and now we have these little tools to help you keep up with cleaning and tidying your home.

We’ve already talked about robot vacuums and whether they are any better than standard vacuums, and now it’s time to do the same for robot mops!

At Oakville Maids, we’re all for trying new cleaning methods, products, and equipment. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of robot mops vs regular mops and which is right for your home.

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Efficiency

The first feature we want to discuss is efficiency.

Regular mops are efficient but there are many types of mops, so you need to learn which one is the best for your floors beforehand. You have spin mops, flat mops, sponge mops, strip mops, dust mops… and each type works differently, depending on your type of floor and how dirty your floor is currently.

Flat mops, for example, are great if you want to quickly clean your floors in 10 – 15 minutes and just “preserve” your floors decently clean. If you want to actually scrub and remove dirt and grime, you may need a sponge mop.

You can always have 2 – 3 mops and use them depending on your type of floor and level of dirt, of course. And this is, cost-wise, around the same as having a single robot mop.

Robot mops are more versatile and stick to different floors. They are efficient (considering you are saving time and energy). And, of course, they’re efficient because they’re consistent. They don’t have to “think” if they want to clean every day or not.

That being said, nothing is more accurate for cleaning than the human eye (and your hands!). With a regular mop, you can apply extra force on a floor stain, or you can be gentle and delicate if you know your floors don’t need to be scrubbed hard.

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Cost

In terms of cost, robot mops are indeed more expensive than cheap, ordinary regular mops.

Starting prices for robot mops are around $200 and up to $1200 for the premium models. On the other hand, regular mops are anywhere between $30 and $60.

At first glance, you’d think regular mops are the obvious choice. However, keep in mind robot mops save you hundreds of hours of mopping.

In the long run, this might be actually cheaper than spending that money and energy doing it yourself.

On the other hand, robot mops are electric devices after all and they may broke, especially the cheaper alternatives. Sometimes, you also need to buy additional pieces or “features”. Mops are usually nice and sturdy, simple and straightforward, and they last long.

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Versatility

In terms of versatility, regular mops have the upper hand definitely. Robot mops are great on tile and LVP, but not so great for hardwood floors. That’s because hardwood floors are sealed by wax to prevent moisture and water damage.

What happens with robot mops is that they won’t regulate their power, and will wear your finish out much faster.

Also, they tend to put too much liquid on the floor and not dry sufficiently too. This makes your floor look dull and shortens the life of the finish.

For hardwood floors, you should stick to microfiber mops and hardwood floor cleaners.
