Picture this: There I was in the late ’90s, a fresh Baylor University graduate, hacking away at IBM’s supercomputers, followed by a stint managing computer systems that supported all the trusts at Bank of America. Impressive, right? But here’s the thing – staring at screens all day left me feeling about as fulfilled as an empty vacuum bag.

Then in 2004 I left he high-tech to join the cleaning industry. While my tech friends thought I’d lost my mind, I dove headfirst into the cleaning industry. Why? Because it felt good to finally see the fruits of my efforts – something I didn’t experience hacking away behind a computer screen. And those fruits were happy people because what we’re really selling isn’t just clean homes – it’s happiness. And no, that’s not just marketing fluff. There’s science backing this up! (Who knew removing dust bunnies could spark so much joy?) So, hearing how you are making a difference in people’s lives, hearing how you are making customers happier by removing the chore of cleaning provides a fundamental satisfaction to my life that I could never achieve writing computer code.

Our Secret Sauce

With each additional happy customer, I helped my cleaning service grow into one of the largest and the most award-winning cleaning companies in the area. Now, the secret of my success is not really a secret at all! Hire cleaners with a good work ethic and a good heart. So, they aren’t just cleaners – they’re happiness engineers, creating peaceful sanctuaries for our customers to come home to. And yes, I might have borrowed that “happiness engineers” title from my tech days.  As a result, we have happy customers that stay with us for many years while referring additional business to us. But then I met my wife Dianelly in Toronto, and suddenly Canada didn’t seem so far north after all. When the opportunity to lead Oakville Maids appeared, it was like finding the perfect spot that even my most detail-oriented cleaner couldn’t have missed.
