Your house survived Canada Day.

Barely.

The flags were flying, the burgers were grilling, the fireworks were booming, and at some point, someone definitely walked through the house with shoes that had no business being indoors. But that’s Canada Day. It’s family, friends, food, fun, and just enough chaos to remind you why us cleaning companies exist.

Before we get to the crumbs, spills, sticky floors, and mystery stains, let’s take a quick moment to appreciate why we celebrate Canada Day in the first place. Canada Day is celebrated every year on July 1st. It marks the anniversary of Confederation in 1867, when Canada officially became a country under the British North America Act. It was originally called Dominion Day, but today we know it as Canada Day, a time to celebrate the country, its communities, its natural beauty, its freedoms, and, of course, the national ability to apologize even when someone else bumps into you.

Here in Oakville, Canada Day is a wonderful time to enjoy the summer, gather with friends and family, and appreciate being part of such a beautiful community… And then July 2nd arrives. That’s when the real national event begins: cleaning up. Now, here is what to tackle first after the Canada Day party…

Step One: Start with the Trash

This is not the glamorous part of post-party cleanup, but it is the most important. Before you start wiping counters, vacuuming floors, or pretending the kitchen doesn’t exist, grab a garbage bag and walk through the house. Collect paper plates, napkins, empty cups, food wrappers, broken decorations, and anything that looks like it gave up around 9:30 p.m.

Don’t forget the backyard or patio. Canada Day has a way of spreading debris like confetti. One minute people are politely enjoying snacks outside, and the next morning your lawn looks like it hosted a small diplomatic summit involving ketchup, paper plates, and juice boxes.

And don’t wforget to separate recycling as you go. Future you will appreciate not having to dig cans out of a garbage bag later. Future you has been through enough.

Step Two: Kitchen Rescue

The kitchen is usually command central for Canada Day celebrations. It is also where good intentions go to die.

Start with the obvious: put away leftover food. If something has been sitting out too long, especially in the summer heat, it is probably not worth the risk. No one needs “Canada Day Potato Salad Regret” as a family tradition.

Next, clear the counters. Load the dishwasher. Hand wash anything oversized. Wipe down the stove, counters, sink, and any surface that appears to have been attacked by barbecue sauce. If you grilled, check the area around the back door too. Somehow barbecue sauce and grease can travel farther than most small aircrafts.

Step Three: Handle the Sticky Floors

After Canada Day, floors often tell the story of the party. There was foot traffic. There were drinks. There were kids. There may have been watermelon. There was definitely someone who said, “Don’t worry, I’ll clean that up,” and then absolutely did not clean that up.

Start by vacuuming or sweeping first. This removes crumbs, dirt, grass, chips, and whatever that one crunchy thing is that you don’t want to identify. Then mop the hard floors. Pay special attention to kitchen floors, entryways, bathroom floors, patio door areas, and anywhere kids were allowed to eat. Which, let’s be honest, was everywhere.

Step Four: Check the Bathrooms

During a party, bathrooms quietly become the most important rooms in the house. You may have spent hours preparing food, decorating, and making the backyard look welcoming. But if guests are coming over, the bathroom is where they make their silent judgments.

After the party, give each bathroom a quick reset. Empty the trash, wipe the counters, clean the sink, check the toilet, replace towels, and make sure there is still soap. If you hosted a larger gathering, this is not optional. This is a public safety issue. Okay, maybe not public safety. But close.

Step Five: Attack the Mystery Stains

Every party leaves behind at least one mystery stain. It might be on the couch. It might be on the rug. It might be on a dining chair. It might be red, brown, orange, or some new colour invented by children and popsicles. But the key is to deal with stains quickly. Blot, don’t rub. Rubbing can push the stain deeper into fabric, which is exactly what you do not want unless your long-term decorating plan is “permanent evidence.”

For carpet or upholstery, use the appropriate cleaner for the material. If you are not sure what something is made of, test a small hidden area first. And if the stain looks serious, do not panic. Panic has never removed a stain. It has, however, convinced many people to grab the wrong cleaner, scrub like they’re punishing the carpet, and turn a small problem into a permanent family landmark.

If you happen to have clear alcohol in the house (which, after a big party, is not exactly unheard of) many people swear by the carpet-cleaning hack in this corny, yet somehow entertaining Dallas Maids‘ video below.

Step Six: Give the Guest Areas a Reset

Once the major cleanup is done, focus on the areas where people gathered. Fluff the pillows. Fold the blankets. Straighten the chairs. Wipe the tables. Remove drink rings. Vacuum the living room. Put away anything that migrated from another room and has no explanation for being there.

This is the part where your home starts to feel like your home again, instead of a community centre that briefly served burgers.

Step Seven: Don’t Forget the Outside

If you celebrated outdoors, your patio, deck, porch, or backyard probably needs some attention. Check for plates and cups, napkins. food scraps, decorations, firework debris, if applicable, sticky tables, and spills around outdoor furniture. Also check under patio furniture. Guests, especially children, have an incredible ability to hide snack evidence in places no adult would think to look.

Step Eight: Open the Windows

After a house full of food, guests, pets, kids, and summer heat, fresh air helps. So open the windows if the weather allows. Let the house breathe a little. This helps clear food smells, smoke from grilling, and that vague “a-lot-of-people-were-here” scent… Yes, that is a real scent. No, science has not officially named it yet.

Step Nine: Know When to Call for Backup

Sometimes the best post-Canada Day cleaning strategy is admitting that you had a great party and now you would like someone else to deal with the aftermath. That’s where Oakville Maids can help! Whether your home needs a basic refresh, a deeper clean, or a full “what happened here?” recovery mission, our team is here to help you get your home back to normal.

Canada Day should be about enjoying family, friends, food, and community, not spending the next day scrubbing floors and negotiating with barbecue sauce. So if your house survived Canada Day, congratulations. If it barely survived Canada Day, contact Oakville Maids or book online in about sixty seconds.

We’ve seen things.

And we clean them.

It’s June 21st, the first day of summer, and we’ve got a simple cleaning hack to help you keep your home fresh without spending your whole day cleaning.

Summer in Oakville is great, until your home starts getting dirtier faster than usual. Open windows let in fresh air, but also dust and pollen. Kids are in and out, backyard traffic increases, and somehow everything feels just a little messier all the time. The good news is you don’t need a full deep clean to stay on top of it. A simple 10-minute reset each day can keep your home feeling fresh and under control.

Start by airing out your space. Open a few windows or doors for a couple of minutes to let fresh air circulate and push out that stale feeling. It’s a small step, but it makes a noticeable difference right away. Then move quickly through the areas where dirt tends to build up without being obvious. Window sills are a major culprit in the summer, collecting dust, pollen, and even the occasional bug. Entryway floors and coffee tables also gather debris faster than you’d expect. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and an all-purpose cleaner is all you need. This is about speed, not perfection.

Next, turn your attention to the kitchen. Wipe down the counters and give the sink a quick clean. This alone can make the entire home feel noticeably cleaner. Finish with a fast pass over high-traffic floors, either with a vacuum or a broom, and take a moment to straighten cushions or tidy up the main living area. In ten minutes, your space will feel reset.

The reason this works is simple: it prevents buildup before it starts. Most people wait until things feel noticeably dirty, which leads to longer, more frustrating cleaning sessions. This approach keeps everything consistently manageable and saves time in the long run.

One additional tip for Oakville homes in the summer is to clean your window sills more often than you think you need to. With windows open regularly, they collect far more dust and pollen than usual. If they’re neglected, your home never quite feels clean, no matter what else you do.

This quick reset is effective for day-to-day upkeep, but it won’t replace a proper deep clean. If you’re starting to notice sticky floors, built-up grime, or that general feeling that your home just isn’t as clean as it should be, it may be time for a more thorough approach.

At Oakville Maids, we handle the deep cleaning so your daily resets actually work. The result is a home that feels consistently clean without the stress of trying to keep up with everything yourself.

Spring in Oakville is a beautiful thing. The sun is shining, the birds are out, and everything feels fresh and new. Until… the sunlight hits your floors at just the right angle. And suddenly your home looks like it’s been hiding secrets all winter.

You see it all at once. Dust on the baseboards that somehow appeared overnight (it didn’t). Fingerprints on the windows that no one is claiming responsibility for. That one corner you’ve been “meaning to get to” since approximately November. Spring has a funny way of doing that. It doesn’t create the mess. It just reveals it. Very aggressively.

The 10-Minute Reality Check

Before you spiral into a full-day cleaning marathon, here’s a better idea. Pick one ignored area. Just one. Not the whole house. Not even the whole room. Just a single, slightly embarrassing zone. Maybe it’s:

The baseboards that have quietly changed color

The window sills collecting what appears to be a small ecosystem

That one drawer in the bathroom that you open carefully so nothing jumps out

Set a timer for 10 minutes and go after it.

No perfection. No overthinking. Just progress.

You’ll be surprised how much better your home feels when even one problem area is handled. It’s like your house takes a deep breath and says, “Finally.”

Why This Works (and Why We Avoid It)

Most people wait until things feel overwhelming before they clean. That’s when you start negotiating with yourself:

“I’ll just do it this weekend.”
“This isn’t that bad.”
“Maybe it’s the lighting.”

It’s not the lighting.

Small, consistent resets beat one big, exhausting clean every time. It keeps things manageable and prevents your home from reaching that “how did it get this bad?” stage.

A Very Oakville Problem

This time of year, there’s one area that deserves special attention: window sills.

With windows opening again, they collect everything… dust, pollen, the occasional confused bug that made a poor life choice.

Ignore them, and your home never quite feels clean, no matter how much you vacuum. Clean them, and suddenly everything feels… lighter.

When It’s Time to Call It

Of course, there’s a point where a 10-minute reset just isn’t going to cut it. So, if you’re noticing:

Floors that feel a little… sticky

Buildup that no longer responds to “quick wipes”

Or that general sense that your home is winning

It might be time for backup.

The Easy Way Out (No Judgment)

At Oakville Maids, we handle the deep cleaning so you don’t have to spend your spring scrubbing things you don’t even remember making dirty. We’ll take care of the baseboards, the corners, the places you’ve been politely ignoring.

You just enjoy the sunshine.

Because spring in Oakville should feel fresh, not mildly stressful.

Oakville Maids
No judgment. Just a very clean home.

But as lovely as winter looks from inside your living room window, it also brings with it a whole new set of “Why is my floor always wet?” and “When did we track in half of Lakeshore Road?” problems.

Don’t worry. You’re not alone.
Here’s how to keep your home feeling fresh, warm, and welcoming during these chilly months.

1. The Great Salt vs. Floors Battle

If your entryway currently looks like someone spilled a bag of sea salt and then danced in it… welcome to winter.

Salt, slush, and melted snow love to leave streaks and patches all over hardwood and tile.

Quick fix:

Keep a shoe tray by the door

Lay down a washable, absorbent mat

And kindly remind family members that shoes-off is non-negotiable

(This reminder may require bribery. Cookies work.)

2. Rotate Your Cleaning Routine (Just Like Tires)

In the winter, your priorities shift a bit:

Floors → daily or every other day

Dusting → once a week (homes get cozier, aka dustier)

Bathrooms → don’t ignore them (hot showers + closed windows = moisture)

You don’t need to go full “January resolution cleaning ninja”. Just shift where you give a little extra attention.

3. Add Cozy Without Adding Clutter

Winter makes us want blankets, pillows, candles, warm drinks, and… more blankets. The trick is to edit. For every blanket added, retire one to storage. The goal is warm and inviting, not “Did a pillow factory explode in here?”

4. Fresh Air (Yes, Even When It’s Cold)

It might sound counterintuitive, but open a window for 5 minutes a day.

Why?

Stale indoor air builds up dust and odors

Quick bursts of cold air help refresh the entire house

It makes you feel alive in a “I chose to live in Canada” kind of way

Just don’t forget to close the window.

Don’t ask me how I know.

5. Let Someone Else Do the Heavy Lifting

Winter is for:

Hot tea

Cozy socks

Reading beside the window

Watching the snowfall like a peaceful Canadian painting

Winter is not for:

Scrubbing baseboards

Deep cleaning bathrooms

Wrestling with vacuum cords

This is where we come in.

At Oakville Maids, we help keep your home clean, cozy, and calm, so you can actually enjoy the beauty of winter instead of cleaning up after it.

Stay warm. We’ll handle the cleaning.
(And yes, we show up even when it’s snowing. We’re Canadian. We’re trained for this.)

Final Thoughts

Winter in Oakville is charming, beautiful, and definately a little messy. With a few simple habits, and maybe a friendly professional cleaning team (hint, hint), your home can stay spotless, warm, and welcoming all season long. And if you want help, we’d love to clean your home while you enjoy the view snowing gently outside the window.

Oops… We Missed Canada Day! Here’s Why (And a Little Cleaning Wisdom, Too!)

Happy (belated) Canada Day from all of us at Oakville Maids! Yes, we know… we’re a little late this year. But in our defense, we’ve been busy doing what we do best… cleaning up after the celebrations!

Between spilled maple syrup, barbecue sauce explosions, and the confetti that somehow gets everywhere (seriously, where does it all come from?!), we were elbow-deep in mops, vacuums, and elbow grease. Before we knew it, the holiday had come and gone, and we’d forgotten to post our own “Happy Canada Day” message.

So here we are, popping in fashionably late, just like that relative who always shows up halfway through the fireworks show.

Post-Party Cleaning Tips (Because We’ve Seen It All!)

Since we’re already here, we thought we’d share a few quick tips for those of you still trying to clean up after your own Canada Day festivities:

1. BBQ Sauce Stains:
If the ketchup or BBQ sauce went rogue, dab (don’t rub!) the stain with cold water, then blot with a little dish soap and vinegar. Works like a charm.

Ah, spring in Oakville. The snow melts, the sun finally remembers we exist, and suddenly we realize our homes have been collecting dust like a museum exhibit. Yep, it’s time for spring cleaning, a chance to shake off winter’s gloom and make your home feel fresh, airy, and, dare we say it, livable again.

But let’s be honest. Spring cleaning can feel like an Olympic event you didn’t sign up for. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back with some practical and totally achievable cleaning tips.

1. Declutter Like a Pro (or at Least Like Someone Who Watches Organizing Shows)

Before you even touch a vacuum, start by decluttering. If you’re holding onto items that haven’t been used since the last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup, it’s probably time to say goodbye.

Pro tip: If you hesitate while deciding whether to keep something, ask yourself, “Would I actually notice if this disappeared?” If the answer is no, donate it, recycle it, or toss it.

Bonus: Decluttering makes actual cleaning easier. No more dusting around a pile of “maybe one day I’ll use this” stuff.

2. Conquer the Dust <s>Bunnies</s> Donalds (Before They Stage a Coup)

Dust collects in the sneakiest places: ceiling fans, baseboards, behind furniture. This is their time to shine (literally). Use a microfiber cloth, a vacuum with a brush attachment, or, if you’re feeling dramatic, put on a cape and pretend you’re battling them in an epic showdown.

Don’t forget your light fixtures! They’re dust magnets, and clean ones will instantly brighten up your space.

3. Windows: Because You Deserve to See the Outside World Again

After months of winter grime, your windows are probably doing a great impression of frosted glass. Give them a good clean inside and out.

DIY trick: Mix equal parts vinegar and water for a streak-free shine. Or, if you’re not into DIY, grab a bottle of glass cleaner and go to town. Either way, your future self will thank you when you realize how much brighter your home feels.

4. Deep Clean the Kitchen (Yes, Even the Scary Parts)

Your kitchen worked hard all winter and it’s probably looking… well, a little worse for wear. Time to roll up your sleeves.

Wipe down cabinets (sticky fingerprints? Gone!)

Clean behind and under appliances (we know it’s terrifying, but be brave)

Scrub the microwave (because that spaghetti sauce explosion didn’t clean itself)

Toss expired pantry items (goodbye mystery spice from 2015)

Pro tip: If your fridge has mystery smells, place an open box of baking soda inside. It works like magic (or at least like science).

5. Refresh Your Carpets and Upholstery (Because They’ve Seen Things)

Winter means more time indoors, which means carpets and couches have been through a lot. Crumbs, pet hair, and whatever fell between the cushions, it’s all in there.

Give your carpets a deep vacuum or better yet, book a professional cleaning to get rid of stubborn dirt and allergens. Your sinuses will thank you.

6. The Bathroom: Scrub Like You Mean It

Let’s face it, bathrooms hold onto grime like your grandma holds onto Tupperware lids with no matching containers. Tackle soap scum, hard water stains, and that “I swear I just cleaned this” toilet. Use a mix of vinegar and baking soda for tough spots, and don’t forget to replace old shower liners and toothbrush holders (because, let’s be real, those things are gross).

7. Bring in the Fresh Spring Vibes

Once the deep cleaning is done, add some little touches to make your home feel even fresher:

Open the windows to let in fresh air.
Add a vase of fresh flowers (instant mood booster).
Swap out heavy winter blankets for lighter throws.
Light a fresh-scented candle (anything but “leftover winter socks” scent).

Too Busy for All This? We’ve Got You.

Spring cleaning sounds great in theory but if the idea of scrubbing and decluttering makes you want to fake an injury, just call in the housekeeping pros! Oakville Maids is here to handle the dirty work while you sit back and enjoy a clean, fresh, and livable home.

Let’s make this spring the cleanest one yet, without all the stress. Contact us today and we’ll turn your home from “winter mess” to “spring fresh” in no time.

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Cleaning Service

Let’s face it, cleaning your home can be a real pain, eh… Whether you’re juggling work, family, or binge-watching the latest series on Netflix, getting around to cleaning can be a daunting task. But fear not! Hiring a professional cleaning service in our hometown of Oakville is like hitting the “easy button” for your home. Here, we’ll walk through the top 10 benefits of handing over the mop and broom to the experts – like Oakville Maids! Spoiler alert: You might not want to go back to your old ways.

1. Time is Money (And You’re Probably Running Out of Both)

Let’s be honest: how many times have you stared at your messy home and thought, “I’ll clean it later!” But then later turns into “I’ll clean it tomorrow!” And then tomorrow? Yeah, forget about it. Hiring Oakville Maids means you get your time back, whether you want to spend it in Bronte Park, taking a walk along Lake Ontario, or finally catching up on those overdue chores. You’ll have more time to focus on what really matters.

2. A Professional Touch for Spotless Results

Sure, you can vacuum and wipe down surfaces, but are you really getting every nook and cranny? We’re talking about the corners behind the couch where your socks go to die, or the areas under the fridge where crumbs go to have a crummy party. Professional cleaners are trained to do this for a living, so they’ll leave your home gleaming, from floor to ceiling (even those places you forgot existed). If you’ve ever tried to clean a shower tile grout, you know what we mean.

3. No More Dust Bunnies (Or Dust Bears, Or Dust…Well, You Get It)

You’ve probably heard of dust bunnies, those adorable little creatures that sneakily multiply under your bed and behind your furniture. But in Oakville, we’ve got dust bears lurking in the corners of our homes. It’s big, it’s hairy, and it’s scary. Professional cleaners know how to tackle these invisible yet ever-growing pests, leaving your home spotless and allergen-free.

4. Consistency You Can Count On

When you clean your own home, how often do you skip a task, only to remember it a week later? Maybe you missed the baseboards (oops), or maybe your “quick” vacuum turned into a two-hour marathon. A professional service ensures that your cleaning schedule stays consistent. You can rest easy knowing that your home will be cleaned top-to-bottom each and every time, just like clockwork. Trust us, your dusting schedule will never look better.

Though one piece of advice: Always check reviews! Quality of cleaning was the biggest complaint we found while researching our competitors’ reviews. And likewise, when asking redditors on r/oakville, consistency is the biggest complaint.

5. The Eco-Friendly Advantage

Oakville residents love keeping things green, and for good reason. From the lush greenery of Oakville’s parks to the eco-conscious vibe of our local shops, we’re all about reducing our carbon footprint. When you hire a professional cleaning service, many offer eco-friendly products that are tough on grime but gentle on the planet. Not only will your home look pristine, but you’ll also feel good knowing that you’re doing your part for Mother Nature.

6. Less Stress, More Relaxation

Let’s face it: cleaning is stressful. Whether it’s moving the couch to find that rogue sock or trying to scrub the bathroom tiles until your arm falls off, it can feel like a never-ending battle. By hiring Oakville Maids, you can maximize your happiness and enjoy the peace of mind and that comes with having a professional handle the dirty work. The only thing you’ll need to worry about now is whether to grab a coffee at the Tim Hortons on Lakeshore Road or hit up the bakery for a treat.

7. A Healthier Home (Goodbye Germs)

You know those germs you can’t see but definitely feel? Yeah, they’re lurking in places you don’t always think about such as light switches, door handles, and even your kitchen sink. A professional cleaning service uses the right tools and products to tackle these germy hot spots, making sure that your home is not only clean but healthy. Say goodbye to germs, bacteria, and allergens that have been hiding out, and say hello to a cleaner, healthier environment for you and your family.

8. Customized Cleaning Plans for Every Need

Maybe you need a deep clean before a big family gathering at your Oakville home, or perhaps you just need a quick spruce-up after a hectic week. Either way, professional cleaning services are highly customizable. Whether you need a one-time cleaning or regular upkeep, Oakville Maids can tailor the service to suit your schedule and needs. You tell them what you want; they make it happen. Easy as that.

9. The Gift of Clean (Perfect for Busy Families)

Let’s talk about the busy families in Oakville. Between school runs, soccer games, and (let’s be honest) endless laundry, cleaning is probably the last thing on your mind. Hiring a professional cleaning service can be a game-changer for families who want to spend more time making memories and less time cleaning. You know, like those afternoons at Bronte Creek Provincial Park or fun weekends at the Oakville Waterfront Festival… much more enjoyable when you’re not stressing over a dirty home!

10. It’s Just So Convenient

In today’s fast-paced world, convenience is key. Imagine walking into your home after a long day of work or running errands around Oakville, and – BOOM! – your house is sparkling clean. No need to stress about making time for cleaning anymore. Professional cleaners are just a call away, and they make your life a whole lot easier. You’ll wonder how you ever managed without them.

In Conclusion: A Cleaner Home is Just a Call Away

There you have it, 10 fantastic reasons to hire a professional cleaning service in Oakville. Whether it’s saving time, getting better results, or just enjoying a stress-free life, there’s no reason not to treat yourself (and your home) to the clean it deserves. So next time you’re putting off cleaning your house, consider giving Oakville Maids a call.

And hey, after your home is sparkling, maybe you’ll have time to finally check out the Oakville Art Gallery or try a new local café. Because you deserve it.

Hello and welcome back to Oakville Maids! Fall is here! We thought this was a fantastic opportunity to give you our top fall cleaning tips. Let’s get started!

We are already beginning to notice fall in Oakville. Temperatures have gotten a bit colder and the sky is getting more cloudy.

And we all love that fall vibe with beautiful décor or the beautiful colors we now see on the trees and in our backyards. But we also know that some allergies sprung up during this time, and dust and polen needs some extra attention to keep your home clean and tidy.

As always, before we begin, don’t forget to check Oakville Maids, our house cleaning service in Oakville. We know this time is busy for many families and we can all use an extra pair of hands —professional cleaning hands, that is.

Without further ado, let’s read Oakville Maids Fall Cleaning tips!

Swap Out Summer Gear and Declutter

One of the first things you want to do before starting any cleaning is take care of the clutter that has built up over spring (and even from summer!).

Start by leaving some empty space in your entryway and make room for sweaters and coats.

With a tidy and organized space, you will grab what you need and feel good right before leaving / as soon as you get home.

The trick for entryways is to keep airflow as clear as possible. Consider installing a small dehumidifier and/or air purifier, especially if you don’t have windows nearby. If you don’t have one, you can mix baking soda and essential oil. Put it on a small plate or mesh bag inside your closet or on your coat rack.

Wash Your Windows

Every fall you are going to need more light coming in to absorb as much heat and sunlight as possible. Here’s what you can do:

Mix equal parts of water and white vinegar and add 3 drops of dish soap in a spray bottle.

Spray the mixture and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth after 10 minutes.

If you haven’t cleaned your windows in a while, you may need to try using CLR, especially in certain areas of Oakville where you have hard water.

Mix equal parts of CLR and warm water, scrub your glass with a non-scratch sponge, wait 2 minutes and rinse with cold water.

Don’t try to clean the window when the sun is shining on them.

Related: What Oakville Cleaning Companies Are Getting Wrong

Clean and Store Outdoor Furniture

Now that seasons are changing, it’s time you clean and store your outdoor furniture. Depending on where you live, you might not want to go out and enjoy your patio as often.

First of all, use a handheld vacuum cleaner to get rid of all the dust and debris from your table.

Then, with a microfiber cloth, spray a soapy water solution. Dry with a microfiber cloth and let dry, preferably in the sun.

For wooden pieces, use 1 – 2 drops of polish or conditioner per piece and scrub with a thick cloth. You want to make your wooden pieces stay nice and healthy.

Once it’s done, put your protective covers and store them back in your garage or shed.

Take Care of Your Kitchen for Fall

Of course, you’ll need to clean your kitchen to get off on the right foot.

Start with the fridge. Remove any expired items you find, take out your shelves and drawers and spray some hot, soapy water on them.

Sprinkle some baking soda in your fridge to absorb odors. After washing and rinsing your drawers and shelves, wipe the inside of your fridge.

Clean your oven as well! You better take care of it with plenty of time before Thanksgiving. Usually, we are all for using DIY cleaning products, but ovens tend to have a lot of grease buildup. You’re going to need a specialized oven cleaner.

Choose a low-fume oven cleaner and follow the instructions. We recommend that you start with this because they need 15 – 30 minutes of action beforehand.

Deep Clean Carpets and Floors

During fall, you’ll likely be spending more time indoors, so you should keep your carpets and floors clean.

If you have different types of floors, you can create a multi-purpose cleaning solution. Mix one cup of vinegar white vinegar, one gallon of warm water, and 3 – 5 drops of lemon essential oil.

This is an efficient, versatile mix, and safe enough for most types of floors. If you have hardwood floors, do not soak them in water. Keep a spray bottle with your solution and spray as you mop.

If possible, leave windows open to air your floors.

On the other hand, if you have carpet floors, vacuum them and take the time to apply a carpet deodorizer, especially if you have pets.

Related: The 6/10 Cleaning Checklist

Hello and welcome back to Oakville Maids! Today we’ll discuss the difference between a robot mop and a regular mop: which one’s the best?

This is an interesting debate in the house cleaning world! We all know robot mops are more and more frequent in every household. The question is: are they better or worse than traditional mops?

Technology has moved forward so fast and now we have these little tools to help you keep up with cleaning and tidying your home.

We’ve already talked about robot vacuums and whether they are any better than standard vacuums, and now it’s time to do the same for robot mops!

At Oakville Maids, we’re all for trying new cleaning methods, products, and equipment. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of robot mops vs regular mops and which is right for your home.

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Efficiency

The first feature we want to discuss is efficiency.

Regular mops are efficient but there are many types of mops, so you need to learn which one is the best for your floors beforehand. You have spin mops, flat mops, sponge mops, strip mops, dust mops… and each type works differently, depending on your type of floor and how dirty your floor is currently.

Flat mops, for example, are great if you want to quickly clean your floors in 10 – 15 minutes and just “preserve” your floors decently clean. If you want to actually scrub and remove dirt and grime, you may need a sponge mop.

You can always have 2 – 3 mops and use them depending on your type of floor and level of dirt, of course. And this is, cost-wise, around the same as having a single robot mop.

Robot mops are more versatile and stick to different floors. They are efficient (considering you are saving time and energy). And, of course, they’re efficient because they’re consistent. They don’t have to “think” if they want to clean every day or not.

That being said, nothing is more accurate for cleaning than the human eye (and your hands!). With a regular mop, you can apply extra force on a floor stain, or you can be gentle and delicate if you know your floors don’t need to be scrubbed hard.

Related: Maximize Your Happiness By Minimizing Your Cleaning Chores Study Suggests

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Cost

In terms of cost, robot mops are indeed more expensive than cheap, ordinary regular mops.

Starting prices for robot mops are around $200 and up to $1200 for the premium models. On the other hand, regular mops are anywhere between $30 and $60.

At first glance, you’d think regular mops are the obvious choice. However, keep in mind robot mops save you hundreds of hours of mopping.

In the long run, this might be actually cheaper than spending that money and energy doing it yourself.

On the other hand, robot mops are electric devices after all and they may broke, especially the cheaper alternatives. Sometimes, you also need to buy additional pieces or “features”. Mops are usually nice and sturdy, simple and straightforward, and they last long.

Robot Mop Vs Regular Mop: Versatility

In terms of versatility, regular mops have the upper hand definitely. Robot mops are great on tile and LVP, but not so great for hardwood floors. That’s because hardwood floors are sealed by wax to prevent moisture and water damage.

What happens with robot mops is that they won’t regulate their power, and will wear your finish out much faster.

Also, they tend to put too much liquid on the floor and not dry sufficiently too. This makes your floor look dull and shortens the life of the finish.

For hardwood floors, you should stick to microfiber mops and hardwood floor cleaners.

That’s it! We hope these tips help you understand the difference between a robot mop and a regular mop and find the best option.

Any maid service or professional house cleaner will confirm you this: there’s nothing like the human approach to quickly assess and fix any issues with your floors.

Hello and welcome back to Oakville Maids! We can’t wait for Spring! That’s why we’re giving you some spring cleaning tips to get your home ready.

First of all, welcome back to Oakville Maids! We’re so excited to be back and help you with our house cleaning tips to get your home nice and tidy.

Spring is starting soon and this is the perfect time for some house cleaning. Now that winter is officially ending in Oakville, we have to get our home ready. This means storing back our coats and winter equipment, vacuuming, dusting and cleaning.

Before we continue, make sure to check Oakville Maids cleaning service. Our professional cleaning service will help you get ready for spring cleaning and receiving your guests.

Without further ado, let’s read some spring cleaning tips!

Start With a Plan

First things first: if you want your spring cleaning to be successful, it’s important to decide what are you going to do first and what matters. We’ve talked about different cleaning checklists in the past, like Halloween, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but you might need a new one just for Spring.

Depending on where you live, check the last frost dates for this winter.

If you live in Oakville, the last frost is expected to be in 45 days (at least), so we still have a lot of time left until you can safely clean the outside (like windows and gutters). However, there’s no need to worry! We still have plenty of areas to clean indoors.

Spring started today, so let’s try to make the best of it!

Because this is a spring cleaning, you might need to sort out your tasks between different days or even weeks.

The key to deep cleaning your home is making sure that you use versatile, simple cleaning agents and tools. Grab a spray bottle and fill it with equal parts of water and white vinegar.

This is a fantastic multi-purpose cleaner and it will help you save time and energy. You are going to need a bit of dish soap as well, a dual-sided sponge and microfiber towels.

For sensitive surfaces (granite and marble countertops, or hardwood floors), choose specialized cleaners. Vinegar or other acidic products or strong chemicals in general (e.g. bleach, citric acid) can cause staining or damage your surfaces.

Related: 6 New Year’s House Cleaning Resolutions

Spring Cleaning for Your Living Area

The living room is the heart of your home and after spring, it’s going to need some TLC.

An upholstery/carpet vacuum cleaner is a fantastic tool to use for spring cleaning. This tool removes dirt from within.

This type of vacuum is safe for most types of fabrics, so you will be able to use it on your couch, your cushions and throw pillows.

If you don’t have one, try using a steam cleaner. Heat will be able to remove odor by loosening up sweat and bacteria under the fabrics.

Wipe all surfaces: sideboards, TV stands, coffee tables, and any other furniture in your living area. After wiping with spritz of vinegar or rubbing alcohol, wipe dry with a clean cloth. You can add one or two drops of essential oil for a nice fragrance.

If you have carpet floors, vacuum your floors thoroughly and apply carpet deodorizer. You can find both powder and liquid (spray) options, and both are effective. Just keep in mind powder deodorizers might harm your vacuum filter in the long run.

For regular floors, you need to sweep and then mop, preferably with a floor deodorizer as well. If you have hardwood floors, use a specialized cleaner. For tile and vinyl floors, a gallon of water with 1/2 cup of vinegar is more than enough.

Spring Cleaning for Your Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most challenging areas, and our pantry or storage area gets crowded with appliances, utensils and ingredients.

Start by clearing out your pantry and your fridge. Spray a bit of white vinegar and wipe your surfaces with a damp cloth. Wipe and dry with a clean cloth.

If you have granite or marble countertops, you can use warm soapy water and a sponge to scrub your surface and remove grease.

Make sure you wipe your cabinets as well, as grease sticks to the surface. A sponge with a drop of dish soap and/or degreaser should be enough.

Leave your floors for last. If you have tile floors, you might want to add 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent to your bucket, so you can get a soapy solution to remove grease and grime from them. Remember to mop several times afterward to remove soap and let dry.

Spring Cleaning for Your Bathrooms

When it comes to spring cleaning, one of the most (if not the most) dreaded areas are the bathrooms.

Fortunately, bathroom cleaning products work mostly on their own.

For your toilet. apply toilet cleaner around the bowl. Don’t forget to apply cleaner under the rim! You just have to let them sit on the toilet for 15 – 30 minutes and then remove them with your toilet brush.

Because this is a spring cleaning checklist, you should take the time to deep clean your shower. Some areas in Oakville have hard water, which is just water with high content of minerals. With time, these minerals stick to walls and faucets.

To remove them, get a spray bottle and fill it with 1/4 cup of dish soap and 1/4 cup of vinegar. You don’t need to fill the bottle to the top. Mix them and spray into the surface.

Let the solution rest for at least 10 minutes (ideally 30 minutes) and then scrub with the non-scratch side of your sponge. Pro tip: always use a squeegee after taking a shower! You will avoid limescale and water spots.

For your sink and mirror, spraying vinegar or rubbing alcohol should be enough. Wipe your mirror with a glass microfiber cloth.

Last but not least, don’t forget to sweep your floors as well! You can use the same water/vinegar/laundry detergent mix if you have tile floors.

The Secret for a Fantastic Spring Cleaning: the Details

The difference between a top-notch cleaning and a regular one is in the details. We often forget certain areas such as baseboards, wall corners, door frames and handles, and HVAC air intakes and returns.

To dust your door frames and handles, grab a microfiber cloth and spray a mix of rubbing alcohol and water.

Get a ladder and clean the top of your upper cabinets thoroughly. You probably need a degreaser with water to loosen up the grime that’s sitting on top. Use a disposable sponge (which you will probably need to get rid of once you finish with cleaning).

You can use that ladder to clean your ceiling fans as well. You can use dryer sheets or a dish brush with a soap dispenser.

If you have an old pillow case that you can’t wait to get rid of, you can use one as well. Gently slip the pillow case over the blade and brush on the inside. This way, all the dust stays inside the pillow case (which you can shake into a waste basket).

Wash your baseboards with a bit of soapy water. The cloth needs to be slightly damp, not soaking wet. You can also use the vinegar/dish soap mix from your bathroom.
